A great way to augment your Garmin 430/530 classroom training is to enroll in the Garmin 430/530 Flight School™.  The Garmin 430/530 Flight School™ is a comprehensive flight training program designed to help you master your GNS 430/530 in a variety of flight scenarios in your airplane.  The program is divided into three phases, each phase building upon the knowledge/experience acquired from the previous phase.  All Garmin 430/530 Flight School™ students must attend the Garmin 430/530 Workshop (or equivalent) as a prerequisite.

Garmin 430/530 Flight School™ Training Syllabus

        Phase 1 – Instrument approaches (two lessons)

• Standalone GPS

• Overlay w/ PT

• Overlay w/ hold in lieu of PT

• Vectors to final

• Missed approach procedures

• ILS approach

        Phase 2 – Flight Plans (one lesson)

• Entering IFR flight plan

• Routing changes

• Intercepting radials/airways

  Phase 3 – Advanced operations (two lessons)

• Multiple turns around hold

• Unpublished holds

• Missed approach hold same as PT

• Changing IAF after approach activated

• Departure procedures

• Arrival from NoPT sector

The flight portion of each lesson is approximately 1.5 hours in duration, plus a pre- and post-flight ground session.  Ample time is spent on the ground to ensure that all questions are answered, and all answers are understood.
