Penn Avionics, Inc. has introduced the EE-2 encoder
emulator / Gray code generator. The EE-2 offers the avionics technician a low
cost solution for debugging encoder complaints. The EE2 is designed to reduce
troubleshooting time of any encoder related issues. The unit can detect encoder
problems, and / or generate gray code data for testing transponders, GPS
systems, altitude preselects, or any device that is connected to the aircraft
mode C bus.
The EE-2 can generate both 9 bit parallel data, and 9600 baud serial altiude
data.
The EE-2 is a microprocessor-based product that has several
internal programs for debugging problems. With the EE-2 in place of the existing
aircraft encoder, the technician can view the status of power, ground, code
lines, and enable signals from the aircraft harness. The technician can quickly
determine the source of a problem. The gray code generator allows the technician
to manually enter an altitude, or automatically step through various bit
patterns or altitude sequences. Once a desired altitude program is selected, the
EE-2 is hands free requiring no other switch manipulation. The EE-2 will run off
an internal battery, or from any valid power pin on the aircraft harness. The
EE2 also complements your transponder bench repair capability by providing a
convent method of providing mode c data to transponders under test.
The EE-2 has a 36-inch ribbon cable terminated into a 15
pin male connector that will allow it to plug directly into the aircraft encoder
harness. The EE-2 is available through Penn Avionics, Inc or Avionics International
Supply (AIS).
